Hand-made wooden pizza peel shaped like a Fender Stratocaster guitar by BrickWood Ovens
Every Stratocaster pizza peel is hand-crafted by BrickWood Ovens.

Our Stratocaster pizza peel isn't a wall decoration that happens to look like a peel. It's a functioning wooden pizza peel, designed for years of use in your outdoor wood-fired pizza oven.

Hand made and custom built

We don't stamp these out on an assembly line. Every peel is cut, shaped and finished by hand at BrickWood Ovens, and because natural wood grain varies, no two are exactly alike. Yours is a one-of-a-kind axe.

The exact shape and size of a Strat

We built it to the exact shape and dimensions of the world-famous Fender Stratocaster® guitar. The body is your paddle head, and the neck is your handle, long enough to keep your hands back from the fire while you work the oven like a Saturday night headliner.

How to Launch a Pizza with Your Stratocaster Peel

A wooden peel is the classic tool for building and launching pizzas, because raw dough is less likely to stick to wood than to metal. Here's how to take it from the green room to the main stage.

  1. Dust the peel. Sprinkle a little flour or semolina on the paddle head so the dough can slide.
  2. Build your pizza on the peel. Work quickly. The longer topped dough sits, the more likely it is to stick.
  3. Do a sound check. Give the peel a gentle shake. If the pizza slides freely, you're ready to rock.
  4. Launch it. Set the tip of the paddle on the cooking floor where you want the pizza, then pull the peel back in one quick, smooth motion.
  5. Serve it up. Slide the peel under the baked pizza, pull it out and bring it to the table for an encore.

Let your oven light my fire, not your peel. Slide pizzas in and out, then keep the peel away from the flames. It's a pizza peel, not a Hendrix encore.

Caring for Your Wooden Pizza Peel

  • Season or seal it with mineral oil. A light coat of food-safe mineral oil helps protect the wood and increases the life of your peel.
  • Wipe it clean. Scrape off any flour or cheese, wipe it with a damp cloth and dry it right away.
  • Never immerse it in water. Remember: it's electric! Soaking wood can cause it to warp or crack.
  • Store it dry. Hang it on the wall like a prized guitar between gigs, out of the rain and sun.

Wooden pizza peel mistakes to avoid

  • Building the pizza on a bare peel. Without flour or semolina, the dough sticks.
  • Leaving the peel in the oven. Wood can scorch next to the fire.
  • Soaking it or running it through the dishwasher. Water can warp and crack the wood.
  • Skipping the mineral oil. Dry wood wears out faster.
  • Storing it outside. Rain and sun are hard on wood. Keep it in the dressing room.
