Which Handle Set Fits Your Oven?
BrickWood makes two sizes of pizza oven door, so there are two handle sets. Choose the set that matches your oven at the top of the page.
| Handle set | Fits these ovens | Door size |
|---|---|---|
| Cortile Barile & 28" Mattone Cupola | Cortile Barile and 28" Mattone Cupola | 11" H x 20" W |
| Mattone Barile & Mattone Barile Grande | Mattone Barile and Mattone Barile Grande | 19.25" H x 27.5" W |
The two sets aren't interchangeable
- Each set is sized for its own door, so the wrong set won't fit.
- Both sets use the same solid white oak, the same spar urethane finish and the same stainless steel hardware. Only the size is different.

A Premium Finish, Not a Cheap Stain
Every BrickWood door handle gets 2 coats of Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane before it ships. Spar urethane takes its name from the spars on sailing ships, and Helmsman is made for exterior wood that sits out in sun, rain and changing temperatures.
It contains UV blockers that help protect the wood from sun damage, and it's made to flex as the wood expands and contracts with the seasons. That's why it holds up outdoors far better than a basic stain or an interior finish.
Why it matters on an oven door
- Your handles live outside, next to a wood-fired oven, all year.
- A cheap stain or interior finish can fade, peel and let moisture into the wood.
- Two coats of spar urethane seal the wood and keep it looking good for years.
- Your handles arrive finished and ready to install. No sanding or staining needed.
Why White Oak?
White oak is a dense, tight-grained hardwood that resists moisture and rot, which is why it's been used for boats, barrels and outdoor furniture for centuries. It's a natural fit for a handle that lives outdoors next to a pizza oven.
- Durable: a hard, heavy hardwood that stands up to everyday use.
- Moisture resistant: its closed grain helps keep water out.
- Rot resistant: holds up in damp outdoor conditions.
- Comfortable to grab: wood doesn't carry heat the way the steel door does, so the handles stay much cooler.
How to Replace Your Door Handles
Swapping handles takes a few minutes and a screwdriver.
- Let the door cool completely before you start.
- Remove the old handles by unscrewing them from the door.
- Set a new handle in place, lining it up with the holes in the door.
- Put a lock washer on each stainless steel screw, then drive the screws in.
- Tighten until snug. Don't overtighten, or the screws can strip the wood.
- Repeat for the second handle.
Tip: the lock washers help keep the screws from working loose as the door heats up and cools down, so don't leave them off.
Caring for Your Handles
- Wipe them clean with a damp cloth. Skip harsh cleaners and solvents.
- When the finish starts to look dull after a few seasons, lightly scuff it with fine sandpaper and brush on a fresh coat of spar urethane.
