The BrickWood High Temp Sealant Guide
High Temp Silicone Sealant: How to Secure Your Exhaust Kit Anchor Plate
What high temp silicone does on a BrickWood oven, the one place it goes, where it doesn't, and how to apply it for a seal that lasts.
BrickWood High Temp Silicone Sealant is a one-part RTV silicone rated from -40°F to 500°F continuous, and up to 600°F for short periods. It cures to flexible silicone rubber that stays watertight as metal heats up and cools down. On a BrickWood oven, it has one job: securing the BrickWood Exhaust Kit's anchor plate to the top of your chimney masonry.
High Temp Sealant: Quick Answers
- What it is: a one-part, high temperature RTV silicone sealant.

Where High Temp Sealant Goes on a BrickWood Oven
On a BrickWood oven, high temp silicone is used in exactly one place: securing the anchor plate of the BrickWood Exhaust Kit to the top of your chimney masonry.
The silicone bonds the metal anchor plate to the masonry and seals the joint against water. Because it stays flexible, it moves with the plate as it heats up and cools down, so the seal doesn't crack. Most builders set the anchor plate during construction, but you can also add it after your oven is built.
That's the only place it goes on your BrickWood oven
Nothing else on a BrickWood oven needs high temp silicone. Off the oven, it's a general-purpose high temp sealant rated to 500°F, so you can use it on other projects that need a flexible, high temp seal.
Don't use it inside the oven
- The cooking chamber reaches about 1,000°F. That's far beyond any silicone.
- For fire brick joints use Refractory Mortar. For cast domes use Castable Refractory.

How to Apply High Temp Silicone Sealant
- Clean the surfaces. Remove dust, oil and loose mortar from the top of the chimney masonry and the anchor plate. Surfaces should be clean and dry.
- Cut the nozzle. Cut the tip at an angle to match the bead size you need.
- Apply a steady bead. Run a continuous bead along the joint so it fills the gap completely.
- Tool it smooth. Smooth the bead right away so it makes full contact on both sides of the joint.
- Let it cure. Give it time to cure fully before firing the oven. Follow the cure times on the cartridge.
Safety and Handling
- Use in a well-ventilated area.
- Uncured sealant can irritate eyes and skin. Wear safety glasses and gloves.
- If it gets in your eyes, rinse with water.
- Keep out of reach of children. Store the cartridge capped in a cool, dry place.
Sealant mistakes to avoid
- Using it inside the oven. Silicone can't take cooking-chamber heat.
- Using it elsewhere on the oven. On a BrickWood oven, it's only for the anchor plate.
- Sealing dirty or wet surfaces. It won't bond well.
- Firing before it cures. Let it fully cure first.
- A broken bead. Gaps let water in. Run one continuous bead.
High Temp Silicone Sealant: Frequently Asked Questions
How hot can this sealant get?
It's rated from -40°F to 500°F continuous, and up to 600°F for short periods.
Can I use it inside my pizza oven?
No. The cooking chamber reaches about 1,000°F. Use Refractory Mortar for fire brick joints.
What is it for?
On a BrickWood oven, it's used in one place only: securing the exhaust kit anchor plate to the top of the chimney masonry. Off the oven, it works on other projects that need a flexible, high temp seal.
Does it stay flexible?
Yes. It cures to flexible silicone rubber, so it moves with the metal anchor plate as it heats and cools.
Will it fit my caulk gun?
Yes. It's a standard 10.1 oz cartridge.
Is it waterproof?
Once cured, it forms a durable, watertight seal.
Can I return it?
